Port Blair, Feb 06: The Principal, Tagore Govt. College of Education, Dr. J.D. Singh has launched a book 'History of Great Nicobar Island - The Ascent', written by Tara Singh Pabla (Retd), PGT History, today evening in Conference Hall of TSG Emerald View, Port Blair.
In his address, Dr. J.D. Singh congratulated the author and lauded him for coming out with an immensely informative book by painstaking efforts. His contribution towards the development of Great Nicobar will always be remembered. He also urged the citizens of our islands to preserve the history of our islands to pass on the essence of life to coming generation.
Speaking on the occasion, the author, Tara Singh Pabla, said, "This book is all about the incredible last point of India, Great Nicobar. The ex-servicemen from Punjab were the first to inhabit Great Nicobar Island on 23.4.1969. This paved the way for people from other states to settle in Great Nicobar Island. Their struggle and sacrifice in developing this island, braving the extreme weather conditions and inadequate medical facilities brought Great Nicobar Island into limelight. The dedication, struggle and sacrifice made by all Ex- servicemen of Great Nicobar Island are beyond comparison which put the Island on the path of progress. This encouraged me to write about induction of Ex-servicemen settlers to Great Nicobar Island." Tara Singh Pabla has dedicated his book to all young and elder and those who struggled and devoted their lives for the development of Great Nicobar Island.
Andaman events (Island's Entertainment & Marcom) and ATz Andaman Hospitality (Destination Tourism) are the launch and marketing partners of the book 'History of Great Nicobar Island - The Ascent' written by Tara Singh Pabla.
