Blair, July 24: On the occasion of 20th Kargil Vijay Diwas celebration on July
26, 2019 with this year's theme "Remember, Rejoice and Renew", the
Member of Parliament, A&N Islands, Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma with a vision to
evoke Nationalism and Patriotism amongst students and youths in these Islands,
has proposed to observe "Kargil Vijay Diwas" in a befitting manner
and in true spirit at Auditorium of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Institute of Technology
(DBRAIT) at 10 am on July 26, 2019.
Accordingly,
patriotic speeches and war experiences will be shared by the living recipients
of the Kargil and other Gallantry awards in various fields. 'In such occasions
is the most appropriate to groom the young powerful mind of our islands in such
a way that they remember supreme sacrifice of our martyrs in insurmountable
odds for the mother nation', Member of Parliament visions.
The
20th Kargil Vijay Diwas celebration at DBRAIT will be blessed by many prominent
faces & living legends of our country such as: 1) Col. Deepak Rampal, Veer
Chakra: Col. Deepak Rampal, Veer Chakra is an infantry soldier with more than
35 years glorious service to the nation. During Kargil war of 1999 he led his
team into attack of well entrenched Pakistan Army beyond 15000 feet in Himalayan
region he suffered heavy casualties, yet for four days kept attacking and
finally got victory over enemy soldiers. For his leadership, bravery
determination and sacrifices he was awarded the gallantry award of "Veer
Chakra" on 15th August 1999 by President of India.

Col. Om Prakash Mishra: He is a veteran Infantry Officer from 1987 batch from
IMA, Dehradun. He has been inducted into Artillery Division of Indian Army. He
is 2nd generation army officer, he has served in Sri Lanka in counter insurgency
terrorist operations and was a peace keeper. He was an instrumental in direct
gun Battle combat in J & K terrorist and served in extreme weather
conditions including Kargil. He fought Kargil war by encircling Tiger Hill Post
with 8 Sikh soldiers and occupied the enemy post, during the operation he has
been positioned as authorised observation Post officer. For his bravery and
courage he has been awarded with "MENTIONED IN DESPATCHES", he is a
Kargil hero presently serving in Indian Army.

Brig. J M Devadoss, Seva Medal: He is a veteran infantry Officer from 1974
batch. He was the first Officer to be commissioned in the Sikh regiment from
Tamil Nadu. He had privileged to commanding two Infantry Battalions both in
active operations; one in Jammu & Kashmir and second in operation
PARAKARAM. He has also had the unique distinction of commanding the only
amphibian brigade in India. He was the Tsunami Hero and awarded by Dr. APJ
Abdul Kalam, then President of India with the medal and declared as HERO FROM
HELL in the annual issue of OUTLOOK MAGAZINE January, 2006.

Brig Govind Sisodia, VSM (Retd.): He was involved in the operations against
terrorism in Sri Lanka, Jammu & Kashmir and Mumbai terrorist attack on
26.11.2008. During the operation he was wounded twice. He was instrumental in
capturing terrorist Ajmal Kasab. He has been awarded Vashist Seva Medal by
Government of India.

Cdr. Abhilash Tommy, Kriti Chakra: Cdr. Abhilash Tommy, Kriti Chakra, Nausena
Medal is an Indian Naval Officer who has become the first Indian to complete a
solo nonstop circumnavigation of the world under sail in to 2013. He has
awarded with Kriti Chakra on 2013 (2nd Officer in the Navy to be awarded with
Kriti Chakra). He is a qualified maritime reconnaissance pilot. He has represented
India in several International Events in sailing and featured as the only Asian
entrant in the in the solo nonstop Golden Globe race. He became the first
Indian, 2nd Asian and 79th Person to accomplish this feat.

Lt. Col Shvam Sunder Sharma, Shourva Chakra: His first posting was at Bihar
regiment, he is a widely published poet and writer. A decorated and war wounded
veteran who has been awarded with Shourya Chakra. A thoughtful poet whose poem
and write-up were published in number of anthologies and magazines in India and
abroad. He was a guest poet at Fermoy International Poetry festival at Ireland
in August 2013 and the event coordinator of the Delhi Poetry festival 2014. A
