Land grabbers are at rise in Andaman

TMI Bureau

Port Blair, Mar 01: The Andaman & Nicobar Islands' soil seems to no longer remain for Settlers, Pre-42 and sons of the soil. Intruders, land grabbers and refugees continue encroachments up to the peak and the original locals remain landless. The zero-tolerant Revenue Authority patted its own back by changing the value of "Zero", which was invented by Aryabhatta in the 5th Century.

The people in A&N Islands were relaxed by reading press releases since many years publishing in the trustful "The Daily Telegrams" said, "The A&N Administration does not, shall not and will not tolerate encroachments in A&N Islands. Indulgence in such illegal practice shall be dealt with strictly and the general public have been urged to desist from committing such acts. Showing zero tolerance towards such activities, the District Administration carried out an eviction drive against encroachments on Govt. land at .....". But, one could see now the encroachments are everywhere in the A&N Islands from Diglipur to Campbell Bay. After the OFC connection and the social media revelation on encroachments, people in Andaman now are in a great dilemma about, before how many Zeros the One should be placed to count the encroachments?

"The many original locals in Andaman & Nicobar Islands in general out of fear and shy, they do not dare to encroach any piece of land here and use to work hard and save money to buy a piece of land in future in legal way by staying at rented houses for several years", a prominent elderly citizen said on condition of anonymity.

"But, the Intruders, land grabbers and refugees from various states especially from West Bengal are used to coming to Andaman only to earn without shyness or fear and by taking the advantage of softness and innocent being islanders here, they feel safe in the society. The Politicians, Councillors and Pradhans also out of greed of votes used to extend all possible support to make Resident Certificates, address changed Aadhaar Cards, Local Certificates, Voter Card, Islander Cards, Smart Islander Cards, Wedding Card, Ration Cards, and all required cards & certificates. The authorities too, selflessly provide and issue to intruders and refugees whatever cards & certificates they want for a few or hefty under-table bucks", he added.

"All this way, within a few years the intruders and refugees all of a sudden become a complete islander with their updated / fabricated cards and certificates, and encroach lands, get water and electric connections and finally become a so-called owner of some land. And one fine day, their family members came to Andaman to join here or they flew by selling the land to some locals. If this continues, the Settlers, Pre-42 and sons of the soil would get the least chance to own any land here and have to remain landless", the elderly citizen added.

In the wake of Govt. of India's projects announcements and ongoing development in A&N Islands the land mafia became active these days and price of a piece of land also kicked up higher than usual. The timely action by concerned authorities may avert the obstacles of true development in these Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Immediately after birth, a team of ANIIMS surgeons performed emergency surgery, placing a feeding tube in her abdomen through the stomach to ensure she could receive nutrition. For over two and a half years, the child was fed through this tube, enabling her to gain adequate weight in preparation for a reconstructive surgery to create a functioning food pipe. On September 25, 2024, a complex surgery was performed to create a new esophagus for the child. During the procedure: The artificial feeding tube was removed, and the opening in the stomach was closed; A tunnel was created in the chest, and the stomach was carefully separated from surrounding organs; Using the blood supply from key arteries, the stomach was elevated be...

No Mercy for Government Employees: Staff Forced to Stay Beyond Tenure in Southern and Northern Islands

TMI Bureau Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 23: When an employee receives a transfer order to the Southern or Northern group of islands, they prepare mentally for a specific tenure as outlined in the transfer policy. However, they often face numerous challenges, including the lack of accommodation, government quarters, guest houses, mess facilities, boat or ship services, and even reliable mobile connectivity-challenges that affect both male and more to female employees. In particular, police personnel, exhausted by their stressful duties and isolated from their families, are vulnerable to developing addictions, including alcoholism, which can negatively impact their lives. The prolonged and unjustified extension of postings in these remote islands leads to frustration, helplessness, and a decline in productivity, potentially causing depression. Despite completing their designated tenure, many employees find themselves trapped in these remote locations due to favoritism and influence, with...

Campaign for free access to Cellular Jail gains support, calls for National Pilgrimage Status

Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept 25: A campaign demanding greater respect for India's martyrs at the historic Cellular Jail in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands has gained momentum. The movement calls for the jail, a "National Memorial," to be declared a "National Pilgrimage Site." Activists are advocating for free entry to the light and sound show for island residents and a nominal fee of Rs.30 for outside tourists. The organizers argue that, just as the central and state governments provide free religious pilgrimages, similar provisions should be made for free visits to Cellular Jail, also known as "Kala Pani." Supporters emphasize the importance of including the jail's revolutionary history in school curricula. They believe that officially recognizing the site as a national pilgrimage location would be a fitting tribute to the martyrs and freedom fighters who were imprisoned there. The campaign coincides with the birth anniversary of revolutionary marty...
