One man show plays in PBMC; Councilor of Ward No.4 made Powerless

TMI Correspondent

Port Blair, Feb 15: PBMC Councillor Ward No.4, Shri Abdul Islam has highlighted some issues in the social media regarding his helplessness as Councillor. In the video on Feb 02, he has revealed his hardships to work as Councillor of Ward No. 4. He said, there is an acute shortage of Sanitary Inspectors and Sanitary Staffs in the Port Blair Municipal Council, Port Blair due to which proper sanitization becoming tough in the ward and as per sources, the Superintendent Engineer, PBMC also directed the Sanitary Inspectors not to work in Ward No.4, he said.

It is observed that, many mazdoor workers in PBMC in duty hours are used to working in the houses of PBMC Officers, Supervisors and Sr. Inspectors, everyday and all these things are managed by the Superintendent of Engineer. In this democratic system the public representatives are not allowed to work and provide service to the public, the Superintendent of Engineer becomes the only authority in the PBMC for every work, which is against democracy and condemnable, he told.

Through the Solid Waste Management (SWM) system the local unemployed can get employment and earn their livelihood by collecting wastes. But here too, for the benefit of chosen tenderer nexus with some top officials in PBMC awarding to their favourite parties in lieu of sharing bucks from the for sure profits.

'My proposed works in the Ward No.4 are also not approved since my councillorship in the PBMC, as a public representative it seems I am powerless to do some welfare works in the PBMC Ward No.4', he told.

However, in the Port Blair city the PBMC is always in the headlines for some wrong reasons, people are still kept waiting to see 'Smart City Port Blair', citizens allege that on the pretext of Smart City, Govt. of India have sanctioned huge funds by trust and faith upon the officials to materialize the projected plans. But on the contrary, officials make ways for corruption and it looks like misuse of funds in the name of Missions, Projects and Abhiyans in the PBMC are not getting an expected or concrete outcome from any of them.

Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept 25: A campaign demanding greater respect for India's martyrs at the historic Cellular Jail in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands has gained momentum. The movement calls for the jail, a "National Memorial," to be declared a "National Pilgrimage Site." Activists are advocating for free entry to the light and sound show for island residents and a nominal fee of Rs.30 for outside tourists. The organizers argue that, just as the central and state governments provide free religious pilgrimages, similar provisions should be made for free visits to Cellular Jail, also known as "Kala Pani." Supporters emphasize the importance of including the jail's revolutionary history in school curricula. They believe that officially recognizing the site as a national pilgrimage location would be a fitting tribute to the martyrs and freedom fighters who were imprisoned there. The campaign coincides with the birth anniversary of revolutionary marty...
