The scope of YouTubers in the news field has expanded significantly in recent
years. YouTube, as one of the largest video-sharing platforms, has allowed
ordinary individuals to become citizen journalists in these Andaman and Nicobar
Islands like the rest of the country.
Being in the modern digital era and the effortless nature of mobile phone use by citizens could be seen as constant access to social media, entertainment, and various applications, individuals may find it difficult to detach from their devices. Consequently, one could observe many officials in the local offices also very much attached to their devices in duty hours without missing any opportunity to gaze at notifications, instant messages on their smartphone screens. In addition, news coverage in YouTube could be broadcasted on the same day, within a few hours or could be broadcast live, which gives access to reach faster to the vast public instantly.
By looking at the said advantages of news in YouTube, some IPS officials in the Andaman and Nicobar Police have preferred to conduct Press Conferences with YouTube Channels only. Smt. Monika Bhardwaj, IPS, (Deputy Inspector General of Police) DIGP (L&O)/ AP/ IRBn / Communication have organized a Press Conference on 10/07/2023. Similarly, Shri Kalaivanan R, IPS (Superintendent of Police (SP), South Andaman) / Traffic / PRO (South Andaman) have organized a Press Conference on 05/07/2023 with YouTube Channels only.
