Is the Prime Minister & Union Ministers, A&N Administration committed to transform people from readers to viewers?
For the past 5 years
the print media in A&N Islands has been sidelined by the various
authorities (Centre & UT). During the period, several ministers have
visited these Islands, few Chief Secretaries and Director General of Police
have moved without a single press meet or interaction with media in these
A&N Islands.
For a glaring example,
the print media in these islands have not been invited to take part in the
inaugural function of the New Integrated Terminal Building (NITB) of the Veer
Savarkar International Airport at Port Blair. Informing to a scribe according
to a tweet "the Director, AAI, Port Blair said that from the high level
Delhi it was decided not to invite local media in the inaugural ceremony".
Similarly, in recent times some heads of Police Department wings have started
interactions with YouTube News Channels only by organising press meets.
A prominent senior citizen of Port Blair city expressed his opinion on condition of anonymity that, "the authorities must understand what and how they are serving into the minds of the people. The impact of media, whether it be through reading or viewing, can differ in several ways. Both reading and viewing have their unique strengths and weaknesses in terms of how they affect the minds of their audiences. Both reading and viewing have their unique ways of impacting the minds of their audiences. Reading fosters deeper cognitive engagement, empathy, imagination, and critical thinking, which can lead to a more profound and lasting impact. On the other hand, viewing can provide immediate emotional responses and visual stimulation, but it may not always lead to the same level of mental involvement and comprehension as reading. Ultimately, the impact will depend on the individual's preferences, the content presented, and the context in which it is consumed".
