Press Conference on preparations for General Election held; Preparations are on in all aspects and arrangements are being closely monitored for free, fair and smooth conduct of Lok Sabha Election 2024 in ANIPC: CEO, A&N Islands
Port Blair, Apr. 10:
The CEO of ANIPC informed that ANIPC covers 3 districts and 9 tehsils with
Polling Stations spread over Urban and Rural areas. He said, during the conduct
of Elections, there are 4 to 5 important Components/aspects, namely, Electoral
Roll, Manpower requirement, EVMs, transportation of men and material to the
Polling Stations, and Communication Network Plan. He stated that all these
arrangements have been completed by the Election Department and Office of the
Returning Officer, said the Chief Electoral Officer, Andaman & Nicobar
Islands Parliamentary Constituency, Shri B.S. Jaglan, IAS while interacting
with the media persons during a press conference held in the Mini Conference
hall of Secretariat today evening.
The CEO informed about
the Electoral Roll and Polling Stations for the General Election 2024 as of
March 27, 2024, detailed as per Sheet - 1.
He further said that
the number of Model Polling Stations is 10, while webcasting will be arranged
in 206 Polling Stations. Assured Minimum Facilities as per the guidelines of
ECI have been ensured in all the Polling Booths spread over ANIPC, the CEO
said. VHF & Satellite Phones have been made available for seamless
transmission of polling data in areas wherever the mobile network is not
available, the CEO added.
The CEO informed that
there are 13 Polling Stations, in which the number of electors is below 100,
and out of these 13 Polling Stations, 9 are in South Andaman. The Smallest
Polling Station is Pilopatia with 12 voters, while the number of voters in
Polling Station Lawful Bay is 14 in Nicobar District.
The CEO further
informed that there are 3 PVTGs whose names are there in the electoral roll,
out of which, the number of electors in Shompen Tribe is 98, in Onge Tribe 68,
and 39 are in Andamanese Tribe.
Giving information
about the manpower put in place during Election-2024, the CEO informed that
2,384 Polling personnel and 3,000 Police Personnel have been engaged for the
smooth conduct of Polling on April 19, 2024, in ANIPC. He informed that three
rounds of Election training for election personnel for South Andaman District
have been completed while the third and final round of training for the
election personnel of N&M Andaman and Nicobar District will be completed in
a day or two.
The dispatch of
Polling officials and Poll materials for Nancowry and Campbell Bay will be
started on April 12 by ship, for Nicobar, Little Andaman, Mayabunder, Diglipur,
Rangat will be from April 16, for Swaraj Dweep, Shaheed Dweep, and Strait
Island will be on April 18. The distribution of polling material will take
place from Netaji Stadium on April 18, while the Receiving Centre of polled
EVMs, Strong Room for storage of EVMs and Counting Center will be JNRM.
The ECI has also
appointed General Observer, Shri BN Singh, IAS, Police Observer, Shri Ravi
Joseph Lokku, IPS, and Expenditure Observer, Shri Satyajit Mandal, IRS for
ANIPC. The CEO informed that the checking and preparation of EVM have been
completed and 805 Control Units, 805 Ballot Units, and 844 VVPAT machines will
be used in the Election.
The CEO said that
April 19 will be a Paid Holiday, the notification for which has been issued.
Dry Days on Pre-Election Day and on the Day of Polling and on the Day of
Counting have been declared, and Section 144 CrPC for unlawful activities has
been notified. The CEO further informed that 436 electors have been provided
with the facility of Postal Ballot which includes Senior Citizens 85+ and PwDs.
The Polling team will conduct the Postal Ballot exercise on April 12 & 13,
2024.
He further informed
that 6,517 Election Duty Certificates have been issued to the Polling Personnel
and other staff engaged in Election Duty to enable them to cast their vote at
their place of duty itself. Hence, all arrangements for the run-up to the
General Elections - 2024 are being closely monitored and the Polling in ANIPC
will be held from 7 am to 6 pm on April 19, 2024 (Friday), the CEO added.
The State Police Nodal Officer, A&N Islands, Ms. Monika Bhardwaj, IPS, informed that elaborate arrangements have been made by A&N Police for the smooth conduct of Polling in ANIPC. She informed that proper security arrangements have been put in place in all the Polling Stations and 46 Nakas (Barricades) covering all the Districts have been set up, and seizure of prohibited articles is continuing, and checking will be further intensified. She further disclosed about the seizure of cash of Rs. 25 lakhs, 3.75 Kgs of drugs amounting to Rs. 2 crores, and destruction of 7000 liters of Lehen till date. The DIGP stated that the A&N Police will leave no stone unturned in the conduct of free, fair, and smooth election in ANIPC.
