Brave Son Rescues Father from Crocodile's Mouth; Father Taken to GB Pant Hospital with Critical Injuries
Diglipur, June 12: In
a tragic incident on June 11, 2024, a crocodile attacked a man and his son in
Diglipur, seriously injuring both. Mr. Amar Das, 57, and his son, Mr. Manik
Das, 23, went to fish at the remote Tatkhali Char in Ambar Char, Diglipur Tehsil,
around 3:30 p.m. While Mr. Amar Das was casting a net in knee-deep water, a
large saltwater crocodile attacked him from behind. The crocodile gripped Mr.
Amar Das around the waist, performing a death roll that severely tore his
buttocks, thighs, and chest.
Seeing his father in
danger, Manik Das jumped into the water and managed to gouge the crocodile's
eyes, causing it to release Mr. Amar Das. The crocodile then attacked Manik
Das, inflicting serious injuries to his hands and legs. Despite his injuries,
Manik Das, with the help of a passerby, managed to drag his father to shore.
Due to heavy rain, the
shoreline water was turbid, which made it difficult for them to detect the
crocodile's presence. Family members, alerted by Manik Das's cries for help, rushed
to the scene. They transported the critically injured father and son to Aerial
Bay in a motorized dinghy, arriving around 8:00 p.m., and then called an
ambulance to take them to CHC Diglipur, Manik Das told ‘Andaman Sheekha’.
At the hospital, doctors provided emergency treatment and stitched their wounds. Given the critical condition of Mr. Amar Das, he was referred to GB Pant Hospital and airlifted there this morning. Manik Das, now out of danger, continues to receive treatment at CHC Diglipur.
