The Biggest Drug Haul in the Maritime History: Myanmarese Fishing boat with approx. 6000 kgs of prohibited drug 'Methamphetamine' apprehended by ANC in Andaman Sea
Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov 27: It was a significant achievement in our nationís fight against the ongoing illegal drug trade with the seizure of the huge quantity of illegal drugs by Indian Coast Guard (ICG) of Andaman Nicobar Command in Andaman Seas creating history in the maritime domain in India. Based on an input, Andaman Nicobar Command took an operation on Nov. 25 and apprehended a Myanmarese Fishing boat named "Soe Wai Yan Htoo" in Andaman seas which was carrying approx. 6000 kgs of prohibited drug Methamphetamine.
The six crew members, who were identified as
Myanmarese nationals onboard the Fishing vessel were also apprehended, said the
Commander-in-Chief ANC, Air Marshal Saju Balakrishnan, AVSM, VM while
interacting with the mediapersons at HQ ANC here today. The press conference
was also addressed by the DGP, A&N Islands, Shri Hargobinder Singh
Dhaliwal, IPS.
Addressing the press conference, the CINCAN stated
that this operation stands as the testament & unwavering commitment of ANC
in safeguarding the sovereignty of our waters and protecting the youth and
future generation of our nation from the scourge of drug trafficking. "Our
forces have once again demonstrated exceptional vigilance, precisions and team
work neutralising the serious threat of nation security and public
health", the CINCAN remarked.
The CINCAN stated that the anticipated value of
this drug is in thousands of Crores. The success of this operation is a result
of meticulous surveillance of the likely areas and prompt response to the joint
operation by the ship crew. The CINCAN commended the bravery and dedication of
the Commandant (JG) Ankit Sharma and his team for carrying out this challenging
operation despite the unfavourable weather condition. The success of these
efforts reflects not only their skills and commitment but also the
determination of the nation to uphold the rule of law.
The CINCAN said that the menace of drug trafficking
can only be tackled by the collective efforts of all concerned Departments. The
ANC and the A&N Police have been actively collaborating across all spheres.
Numerous operations against poachers, illegal trafficking and surveillance of
outlying Islands have been jointly undertaken. The CINCAN also placed on record
the invaluable support rendered by the Police team across all these spheres.
The DGP and his team have also provided inputs across all operations in the
past. He complimented the A&N Police in controlling the drug menace in
A&N Islands.
Briefing the media persons, the DGP said, this operation was a very coordinated efforts from all the Units who are proactively guarding Seas of Andaman. There has been absolute coordination between ANC and A&N Police and in last 5 years there has been more than 414 cases and total seizure of this particular contraband was 637 kgs of Meth. He said this single seizure was of approx. 6000 kgs of meth and 6 Myanmarese have been arrested. There has been very high number of poachers who have mainly originated from Myanmar and in last 5 years, 640 nationals of different countries have been arrested, the DGP said adding that the A&N Police is getting all types of help from ANC in anti -poaching operations. Alongwith the ANC and ICG, the A&N Police is also committed to keep Islands safe from menace of drugs, the DGP said adding that as per the initial interrogation it came to light that this particular contraband was meant for International destination only and not targeted for A&N Islands.
