TMI Correspondent Port Blair, Apr 08: The Andaman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) an apex body for safeguarding business interest in Andaman & Nicobar Islands have organised a press conference on April 06, 2023 to bring into the notice of scribes about the challenges they face in Trade and Industries sector and keeping the issues unresolved for a long time. The ACCI after its Executive Committee meeting held on 04 April, 2023 with 28 representatives from Trade Associations, and according to its decision the ACCI have sent a letter addressed to Lt. Governor, A&N Islands with a copy to Chief Secretary, A&N Administration dated 05/04/2023 demanding redressal within 07 days failing which an indefinite Trade Bandh will be observed from April 12, 2023 onwards. New Delhi, Apr 05: In February 2021, India's National Marine Turtle Action Plan mentioned Galathea Bay on the south-eastern coast of the Great Nicobar Island as one of the "Important Marine Turtle Habitats in India". Beaches on either side of the Galathea River are the most important nesting sites in the northern Indian Ocean for the Leatherback turtle, the world's largest marine turtle. The Action Plan says that coastal development projects, including the construction of ports, jetties, resorts, and industries, are major threats to turtle populations. But this kind of development is exactly what is planned for the future of Galathea Bay under the Rs.72,000-crore mega project piloted by NITI Aayog for the "holistic development" of the Great Nicobar Island (GNI), situated at the southern end of the Andaman and Nicobar group of Islands in the Bay of Bengal. Port Blair, Apr 05: An Orientation-cum-Refresher Training Programme on e-Office for the Officers of Andaman and Nicobar Administration is being organized jointly by Department of Information Technology, A&N Administration and National Informatics Centre. The orientation-cum-training programme was inaugurated by Shri Pankaj Kumar, IAS, Secretary (IT), A & N Administration recently in the conference hall of Dr. BR Ambedker Institute of Technology, Pahargaon. The Special Secretary (IT), Dr. Utpal Sharma, Shri Gautam Gupta, ASIO, NIC and Technical Team consisting 4 members from NIC New Delhi were also present during the programme. Port Blair, Mar 18: The Department of Sports & Youth Affairs, Andaman and Nicobar Administration have successfully conducted the mega event Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Open Sea Swimming competition on 18th March 2023 as a part on on-going celebration of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav and hosting of G20 summit in India. As per scheduled at the dawn of day, 191 Nos. of participants enthusiastically participated in the event. Admiral D.K. Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.) Lt. Governor and Vice Chairman, Islands Development Agency as Chief Guest, flagged off the first event “Men’s Open (18 yrs to 50 yrs)” from Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Island in which 138 participants took part.
